Principal Designer (CDM) Role Summary
Principal Designer (CDM) – To manage all aspects of various multiple size project(s) from inception through to completion; ensure that each project meets client expectations, complies with regulations and is completed on time and within budget. It is anticipated that a Principal Designer will be responsible for numerous projects across the practice for the purposes of CDM compliance.
Principal Designer (CDM) General Responsibilities
• Proven experience in undertaking the role of CDM Principal Designer.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and basic Revit preferred.
• Strong understanding of building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to present ideas clearly to clients and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience managing teams effectively.
• Assume responsibility for projects from inception to completion for CDM 2015.
• Ensure projects for which you are responsible are delivered within programme and cost parameters.
• Manage and mentor teams.
• Demonstrate an awareness of project resources – money, equipment and people.
• Attend resourcing meetings to ensure understanding of and participation in resourcing needs of the Practice as a whole.
• Propose improved solutions to reduce project costs if needed.
• Ensure smooth handover of project to client.
• Regularly report key project issues to Partner.
• Prepare and present training workshops and design reviews (or HMY equivalent) as necessary.
• Regularly attend marketing events and forge good relationships with industry contacts in order to generate new business.
• Advise on specific health & safety matters
• Working across architectural projects and teams as Principal Designer Lead
• Critically appraise design risk assessment submissions to the BSR
• Fully understand and be able to apply the Building Safety Act 2022
• Review projects and designs and support with preconstruction health & safety matters.
• Have detailed working knowledge of cladding typologies.
• Support the client to provide preconstruction information.
• Coordinate all health & safety matters during preconstruction
• Prepare and Issue the health & safety document on completion.
• Work closely with the design team
• Develop guidance materials and management tools.
• Work directly with clients.
• Carry out research on best practice methodology.
• Liaise with enforcing authorities where necessary.
• Navigate and use a CDE interface and curate information as part of the Golden Thread.
• Mentor and guide junior staff, fostering a culture of learning and professional development within the team.
• Attend project meetings in capacity as Principal Designer (CDM)
• Develop and maintain HMY suite of CDM templates for PD use ensuring all templates are kept upto date with relevant legislation and best practice.
